Matthew Alderwick
Technical Superintendent
Matthew’s engineering career began in the Royal Navy, completing a marine engineering apprenticeship, and gaining promotion to the officer corp. He studied for a Royal Naval Service Bachelor’s degree in Electro-Mechanical engineering at the University of Southampton and graduated with honours.
Matthew served aboard a variety of warships during his 9 years of Royal Naval service, as a Marine Engineering Officer, before departing in the rank of Lieutenant RN for a finance career in the City of London. He has subsequently worked within various sectors, encompassing finance, entertainment, and marketing, transitioning into a business development director role.
Matthew’s career in the superyacht industry began in 2014, quickly gaining a Y1 qualification as a chief engineer, with experience aboard several superyachts ranging in the 60 – 90m LOA range. This exceptional grounding has provided Matthew with an enviable knowledge base and first-hand experience for his role as a technical superintendent with Hill Robinson.
As technical superintendent for several yachts within the Hill Robinson managed fleet, Matthew works closely with the yacht managers to support vessels across both technical and deck aspects of their operational and yard periods. He has overview of maintenance budgets and procedures, ensures compliance with ISM, reporting directly to the senior management team.
Matthew manages select yacht refits as the owner’s representative and technical lead, keeping himself well informed of technical developments across the industry.
Matthew continues to maintain his certificates of competency as a Y1 chief engineer and is working towards Chartered engineer status.
